UNDP data show that only 15% of primary school teachers in Madagascar are trained to teach (UNDP, 2017). Most teachers, in fact, never attended a pedagogical school. This fact, together with the lack of books and didactic materials, is at the roots of the extremely low quality of education in Madagascar.
In our effort to increase the quality of education at the Mamiko school in Djangoa, we financed a six-weeks teachers training course for all the teachers of the Mamiko school (from kindergarten to secondary), held by a professor of the Institut Supérieur Pédagogique d'Antananarivo (ISPA).
The first part of the training course took place in December 2019. All the teachers expressed great motivation and enthusiasm for the opportunity they were offered! We are looking forward to the second part of the course, which will take place in Spring 2020.
